Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT)

Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is provided by registered dietitians. It includes “a nutrition diagnosis as well as therapeutic and counseling services to help manage your nutritional needs.

At VITALITY WORX, Dr. Ramona Shires, RDN offers patients:

  • Intensive, focused, and comprehensive nutrition therapy service

  • In-depth individualized nutrition assessment

  • Patient follow-up to provide repeated reinforcement to aid with behavior change

  • Assistance with establishing goals, a care plan, and interventions

  • Plans for follow-up over multiple visits to assist with behavioral and lifestyle changes relative to each individual’s nutrition problems and medical condition or disease(s).

MNT consists of 2 steps:

  • Step 1 – Conduction of nutrition assessment

    • Includes the complete analysis of the medical, nutrition and medication history of the patient. This step includes checking the person’s nutrition status, and providing the correct food or nutrients to manage the conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

  • Step 2 – Development and implementation of the nutrition care plan

    • Develop a nutrition plan based on the assessment. The nutrition plan may include providing simple changes in the diet of the patient. RDNs ensure the implementation of the nutrition care plan.

Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics suggests that the MNT is an “integral component” of the health care and the management of the different diseases such as diabetes, heart diseases, osteoporosis, chronic kidney disease and cancer.
